Strive to be a Living Example
I was doing some errands today and stopped for a Pellegrino break at a local Starbucks in Kelowna, British Columbia. There were 3 women sitting at a nearby table enjoying a visit and chatting about their adult children. Yes, I was eavesdropping and I heard one of the women say “We are on the outside looking in these days”. They were conversing about the millennial generation and all the stuff they didn’t get about social media. I am certain these women were my age or maybe even younger. I was amused by their sentiments and wanted to leap up and say “I am on the inside looking and listening to everything these days! I love the millennials (especially my kids) and I plan to be in sync with all generations until I take my last breath. I am 60, aiming for 80 and I never want to be on the outside looking in. There is so much to learn about, we can’t just stop because we are afraid we can’t keep up.
These days I am learning and perfecting how to be the 5th version of myself and I am constantly working on how to be my 'best' version of myself. I am happier, healthier, fitter, sexier, more creative, more confident and more self-assured than I have ever been. My life is abundant and I am grateful for everyone in it, most especially my family. Now that I am sixty, I am more conscious of the passing time and I make a concentrated effort to optimize every hour in my day to pursue my passions and advance my success.
I have had 3 long term careers which I thrived on and I am now the president of my own company, Jennifer Grant International. I provide corporate image consulting, motivational speaking, business and social etiquette training, leadership coaching and a wide array of other services. I work with airports, airlines and ground handling crews , businesses of all sizes, individual clients, and professional groups. My primary objective is helping business professionals and corporations to identify problems and issues that are holding them back from reaching their full potential. I love what I do.
I believe that we are in a state of transition our entire lives or at least we should be. To stop growing, and stretching our brains and our bodies is a sure sign we are at the end. I make it my mission to incorporate all the things I need in my daily life to make me feel younger, more vibrant, caring, attractive and intelligent. I want to touch others in a meaningful way and I want to make a difference to my clients. I want to be productive and creative and most of all, I want to be me. I lived a lot of years being the woman that other people wanted me to be. I worked hard at being accepted and admired and appreciated however I often compromised my own needs and convictions to be that person. Not today and not tomorrow, 'that' person is gone and I have replaced her with 'me'.
If I can share any wisdom or guidance to you, it would be this: No one is going to believe in you more than you believe in yourself. We all have times of self-doubt and despair but you have everything you need to overcome any obstacle on your path. You are unique and you are important. You are here for a reason even if you might not know exactly what that reason is today. Don’t ever stop looking for the 'why' or following your dreams.
You need to move your body every single day and you need to fuel it with good nutrient rich food. Our bodies are incredible machines and we need to look after them. And everyone knows you need good quality rest. For anyone that knows me, they know that resting my body is my biggest challenge so this is an area I continue to work on. Lastly, you need to exercise your brain and there are so many ways that you can do that to keep your brain functioning at a higher performance. Reading writing, studying, researching, meditating are all good ways to work your brain.
My goal is to be a ‘living’ example to others that no matter what age you are, it is possible to be all that you want to be. I feel great about being 60 and I am excited about all the years ahead of me. Join me in challenging yourself to be the best that you can be.
